Bureau County Jail Roster

The Bureau County jail roster is a public resource that lists individuals currently held at the Bureau County Jail in Princeton, Illinois. BureauCourt.us can help you find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. You can also access jail roster information through the Bureau County Jail website, by calling the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, or by visiting the jail in person. A jail roster search lets the public confirm whether someone is in custody, view the charges against them, and find basic booking details. The Bureau County Sheriff's Office maintains the roster, and it is updated as bookings and releases occur at the 115-bed facility at 800 Ace Road in Princeton.

Search Current Inmates in Bureau County Jail

There are several ways to look up someone currently held at the Bureau County Jail.

Online Search

  • BureauCourt.us — Search for publicly available court record information connected to current and recent Bureau County inmates.
  • Bureau County Jail page — Visit the official Bureau County Jail page on the county website. If the jail publishes a browsable roster or inmate list, it will be accessible from this page. On smaller county rosters, you may need to use your browser's built-in find function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to locate a specific name on the list.

By Phone

Call the Bureau County Sheriff's Office or jail directly:

  • Main line: (815) 875-3344
  • Fax: (815) 875-2452

Staff can confirm whether an individual is currently in custody. Have the person's full legal name ready when you call.

Contact the Sheriff's Office ahead of time to confirm lobby hours for public inquiries.

What You Need to Search

  • The individual's full legal name (first and last name at minimum)
  • A booking number, if you have one
  • Date of birth can help narrow results if multiple people share the same name

Juvenile offenders are not included on the public jail roster.

Find Bureau County Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time someone is processed into the Bureau County Jail. During booking, jail staff record identifying information and the circumstances of the arrest. A typical booking record includes:

  • Booking number
  • Date and time of booking
  • Charges at the time of arrest
  • Arresting agency (Bureau County Sheriff's Office, local police department, Illinois State Police, etc.)
  • Basic identifying details such as name, date of birth, and physical description

To access booking records online, start with the Bureau County Jail website or search through BureauCourt.us. If the record you need is not available online, you can request it by contacting the Sheriff's Office directly at (815) 875-3344 or by email at sheriff@bureaucounty-il.gov.

For individuals who have been transferred to state custody after sentencing, the Illinois Department of Corrections inmate search allows you to look up people currently held in IDOC facilities by last name, IDOC number, or birthdate.

If you need related court records — such as case filings, disposition information, or court dates — the Bureau County Circuit Clerk's Office is the official record-keeper for the county's trial court, which operates within the 13th Judicial Circuit. You can also submit a records request under the Freedom of Information Act through the Circuit Clerk's Office.

Search the Bureau County Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The two most common ways to search the Bureau County jail roster are by last name and by booking number.

Search by Last Name

  1. Go to the jail roster page on the Bureau County Jail website or use BureauCourt.us.
  2. Enter the person's last name. Adding a first name helps narrow results, especially for common surnames.
  3. If the roster is displayed as a full list rather than a searchable database, use your browser's find function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to locate the name on the page.

Tips:

  • Use the individual's full legal name — nicknames or aliases may not appear in the system.
  • Double-check spelling. A single incorrect letter can prevent a match.
  • If a hyphenated last name doesn't return results, try searching each part of the name separately.

Search by Booking Number

If you already have a booking number (from a bail bondsman, attorney, or prior search), enter it directly. This is the fastest way to pull up a specific record without sorting through multiple results.

No Results?

If your search returns nothing, consider these possibilities:

  • The person may have already been released.
  • The person may not yet appear on the roster if booking is still being processed.
  • The person may be held at a different facility or may have been transferred to state custody. Try the IDOC inmate search.
  • The name may be spelled differently in the system than you expect.

When in doubt, call the jail at (815) 875-3344 and ask staff to check directly.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Bureau County

The Bureau County Jail roster is generally updated as bookings and releases are processed, but there is no guarantee of real-time accuracy. Several factors affect what you see on the roster at any given moment:

  • Processing delays: After an arrest, it can take several hours for an individual to be fully booked and entered into the roster system. During busy periods or overnight, delays may be longer.
  • Release timing: Once someone is released — whether on bond, by court order, or after completing a sentence — their record may be removed from the roster quickly or may linger briefly depending on when staff update the system.
  • Current custody only: The public roster reflects who is in custody right now. It is not a historical archive. If someone was booked and released last week, they will typically no longer appear on the roster.
  • Data entry variations: Names may be entered with slight differences from what you expect (middle names, suffixes, or alternate spellings), which can affect search results.

For older booking records or historical arrest information that is no longer on the active roster, contact the Bureau County Sheriff's Office to ask about records availability. Some records may be obtainable through a Freedom of Information Act request. The Bureau County Circuit Clerk's FOIA page outlines how to submit a public records request for court-related documents.

For sex offender registration information in Bureau County, the Illinois State Police Offender Registry provides a searchable database by county, name, or address.
